Corvette Z06 Black Edition

Geiger has unveiled a 591-bhp a strong Corvette Z06 Black Edition.

It has been a long time since Geiger has showed such a powerful “anti-green” road monster, where the Chevy Coervette was already tuned back in 2006. But now they have came out with the new Corvette Z06 Black Edition. Technically, the car hasn’t changed much but as you can clearly see that the exterior of Corvette Z06 Black Edition is much different from the other Geiger Z06’s. The engine still runs with 542 bhp instead of the standard 512 bhp, 7-liter V8 engine and with the max torque of 660Nm. This black monster can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds and the maximum speed it can go is 204 mph (330km/h). Additional recipes is also added to the car with the typical, powerful exhaust system, sporty shafts, high-durability cylinders, titan valves plus the new ECU software.

As for the running gear, Geiger experts equipped the Corvette with a stiff helical chassis with lower (by 20 mm) clearance, high-performance braking system and custom rims in the 19- and 20-inch format. And as for the exterior, the gem of the tuning kit is the deep black tint of the paintwork, and the aggressive compact body-kit.

The price for this new Geiger Corvette Z06 Black Edition has not been announced yet. (more…)

2008 Mercedes S63 AMG

At just over USD130,000, the Mercedes Benz S63 AMG is one of the most expensive models in the German stable. It’s also, incidentally, one of the fastest.

With a 6.2 litre, V8 under the bonnet pumping out a whopper 386 KW of power, the S63 can sprint from a standing start to 100km/h in a blistering 4.6 seconds. That’s as quick as the fastest cars that we’ve had in our hands, and quicker by a long shot than just about anything except Ferrari.

The S-Class is the largest model that Benz makes and comes in short and long wheel base versions. S63 AMG is based on the short wheel base version of the car, but at 5076mm and weighing in 2070kg, it’s still no shrinking violet.

The AMG treatment has transformed the car into a much more responsive, better pointing and handling piece of machinery. It’s an amazing-looking thing, dressed in gleaming black with chrome highlights and sitting astride stock, 19-inch alloys fitted with 255/275 40 series rubber.

The huge brake calipers and impressive set of four exhausts mark it as a car not to be tangled with. The V8 is hooked up to AMG’s Speedshift, seven-speed auto with manual change paddles. You get used to the cumbersome, column-mounted shifter after a while, but you definitely don’t get used to the way the rear wheels bite down hard and the car roars off after punching the accelerator too hard. Three are three transmission modes, sports, comfort and manual - each with different shift characteristics and speeds. (more…)

2008 Lotus Elise S

32,942 GBP buys you a big boofy V8 petrol guzzling monster, weighing nearly two tonnes with a loud exhaust and get-out-of-my-face looks.

It will also buy you a sleek, light-weight 1.8 litre, Lotus Elise S two seater-with race nred dynamics, a removable soft top and enough poke to see off most of the boofy V8s. Come to a set of curves and it’s definitely all over.

Weighing in at 860kg give the Elise S an impressive power-to-weight ratio while explains why the naturally aspirated 100KW/173Nm, 1.8 litre Toyota engine pushes it from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds. It is tiny even compared with most other sports cars and is spartan inside though better than before.

It’s designed to scythe through the air while the flat undertray with rear diffusers helps aerodynamics. Large vents funnel air to the engine’s radiators in the rear quarters, and the entire car stands barely more than a meter high.

The Elise S is more of an everyday car than its hard-top stablemate - the supercharged Exige S. Though still challenging to get into with the roof on, the Eclipse will happily trundle along in city traffic with the air conditioner cooling its occupants and the Alpine audio blazing away.

Interior enhancements include splashes of pukka carbon fiber texture leather and a new instrument pod. It has key remote central locking and dual airbags along with AB. The soft top is easily removed and stowed in the “boot” behind the engine. This is Lotus’s entry-level model but is available with two option packs, not that you’ll need them. There are also some new colours. (more…)
