Aston Martin Rapide Scheduled for a late 2009
In 2006 Aston Martin company unveiled the Rapide Concept at the North American International Auto Show but no updates from them since then. But after Prodrive took in charge over Aston Martin company they scheduled the Aston Martin Rapide for a late 2009 which is now entered the final stages of its development process. The Aston Martin Rapide name is a reference to the Lagonda Rapide, a 4-door GT car produced from 1961 through 1964 by Lagonda, now part of Aston Martin.
The Rapide will be powered from a 470 horsepower 600Nm V12 engine with 6.0 liters of displacement, hand built at the Aston Martin’s Cologne factory. Prediction of speed from 0 to 60mph will take around 5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph. This will make one of the fastest sedan car ever produced.
The Rapide will come with a six-speed manual transmission as a standard, and also with an option of choosing a paddle-shifted automatic. There will be no extra features for the all-wheel drive system here, the engine puts its power through the rear wheels only through a Touchtronic transmission. The Rapide features look-alike “swan wing” doors, which rise upwards and outsides when open to facilitate access to the individual rear seats.
Inside the interior will come with luxury crafted sports seats and wood interior. The Rapide will be built at the Magna Steyr’s facilities in Graz, Austria and will be priced between £130,000-£150,000.
