The Mercedes SL 63 and SL 65 receives many changes than the previous SL model line. The new 2009 SL model is more powerful, for the SL 65 which is powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine that puts out 612 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. The slightly less powerful SL 63 puts out 525 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque from its 6.3L V8 engine. All that power is put to the ground through a new seven-speed MCT (multi-clutch) transmission that is only available for the SL 63 AMG. According to Mercedes, Mercedes claims 0-60-mph acceleration in less than 4.2 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.
For the interior, the range-topping V12 model gets unique diamond-pattern Napa leather upholstery, in order to distinguish it from the V8, SL 63 model. The costs for the V8-powered SL63 AMG is retailed for $210,500 and the top-of-the-line SL65 AMG carries the price of $321,000 in Europe, inculding VAT. Both models can be ordered in Europe with additional goodies from the AMG Performance Studio. Among them are a carbon-fiber body kit, a smaller-diameter sport steering wheel with a flattened underside and illuminated door sills. Both are expected to arrive in US dealers later this year.
