BMW M1 Hommage - To Fall In Love With
Wednesday, May 7th, 2008
BMW introduced it’s latest sports car creation BMW M1 Hommage, in honor of celebrating their 30th anniversary at the annual show in Italy which is held at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este.
Inspiration for the exterior design of the M1 car comes not only from the original 1970s M1, but also from the BMW Turbo Concept and it stands out by its aggressive and wide body style. The current M1 clearly mimics the older design, which is easily recognized by the louvered rear window, the BMW badge placement and the metallic bronze paint, which is just the same as the first M1 prototype in 1972.
The intention of the new M1 project is uncertain and we are clearly know that the new M1 Hommage is strictly designed to celebrate the past of its supercars. The M1 Hommage car displayed at the Villa d’Este Concours was a non-functional prototype, with no engine and interior, but with working lights and steering. So far, there’s only 456 production M1s were built, making it one of BMW’s rarest models.
There are no clues on when and whether BMW will ever manufacture or release this M1 production but with rumors that a 1 series M version might be built in the future. We’ll just have to wait and see if there’s any progress on the M1 production. Price for this M1 Hommage car is not known yet. (more…)
